Oh, I had such a conundrum with this one. While reading Biding Time the feeling krept up on me that I lost focus sometimes. Lyn Gardner tells an incredibly elaborate story. And I am impatient. What started as a definite candidate for a favorite title, became a bit of a long-winded story. But wait! I remembered that I am impatient and that it’s been a while since I read such a rich novel. So, I kept reading and I am so glad I did. This is a fantastic book! It’s so good for a lot of reasons, one of them being that this was the best vampire 101 I ever read 🧛♀️. In Biding Time Bennett Archer is a vampire with a special ability. Other than your regular variety vampire, she can walk outside during daytime. She owns an art gallery in Boston which is successfully run by her curator Lisa. You follow Bennett for a while and get to know her and the people close to her. Including Ruby, the woman who lives in her building. Ruby has a serious crush on Bennett and keeps throwing herself at her. Bennett finally relents but only agrees to a sexual affair, there won’t be more between them. This is all fine by Ruby for she finally can get her hands on her 😏🔥.
Through her time with Ruby, you get to know the history of Bennett. She is about 400 years old so it’s a loooooong story. Hence the sometimes long-windedness 😉. I’ll stop saying that because it really doesn’t do the book justice. I’ll stop saying anything further about the story, full stop. The reason for that is that Biding Time is classic storytelling. With so many twists and turns that saying anymore would be a sin.
Last thing I do want to say is that Lyn Gardner wrote a marvelous book which encompasses so much. Love, lust, blood, vampires, honor, history, art, gore, combat, torture, friendship, I could go on and on, it’s all there. The book has enough material to create at least 3 seasons of the best tv-shows ever aired. Oh, and I fell a little bit in love with a character, but I can’t say who 🤐 🥰. Furthermore, it’s all wrapped in a delicious British flavor. In the end it ended up being one of my top favorite titles ❤️.
